The gnostic style of faith is free and open; one does not have to be told how to act and particularly what to believe. You are allowed to use your brain and modern knowledge. You have the ability to think for yourself. The gnostic style believes that seeking God is more important than finding God by a certain belief. The goal of Gnostic Christianity is to raise consciousness by elevating the element of consciousness to the same level, meaning the logic or reasoning of God.
The goal is achieved when you understand the theory of human nature that Jesus revealed because that theory justifies nonjudgmental rules of logic that empower us.
Gnostic Christianity is a Way of Life based on the original teachings of Jesus Christ. A gnostic person believes that salvation is gained through the acquisition of divine knowledge. Gnostic Christians believe that the knowledge necessary for salvation has been revealed through Jesus Christ.
Most Gnostics practiced celibacy on the grounds that the pleasures of the flesh were evil; a few however practiced libertinism, arguing that since the body was evil they should defile it. This led to further distrust, and was an accusation leveled against other groups who did not follow this practice.
This seems very interesting because like in the Matrix that they were searching for the right one. I like the idea that Gnostic Christianity believes in, the idea that its more important the believe of seeking God rather than finding God. The way that Gnostic's believe that salvation is acquiered by the knowledge that Jesus Christ revealed. Again like in the Matrix they only gave Neo the information as he was needing it.
ReplyDeleteIt is said that they live and is the way of life based on the parables, and teachings of christ just like catholism. In a way it is different because catholics belief in the trinity. Does gnotic christianity focus on the father, the son and the holy spirit?. In some religions they see the body as a temple, that you should respect and keep care of which is celibacy but how does libertisim come into place?

ReplyDeleteThe attention grabbing piece in this synopsis was the section regarding the view of sex held by some Gnostic Christians. The idea that you should have sex because the body is evil and should be defiled is quite interesting to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI think it connects to the Matrix because there was a prophecy made that someone would return and play the role of savior to the cause of Morpheus, and Trinity. Same thing in Christianity, they believe that Jesus will have a second coming as savior.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a very inetersting topic to discuss about religion because it's a very broad idea where people who believe and don't believe can share their opinions. You didnt't mention the conncetion witht he matrix but it's clear that Neo would be seen as the god, the chosen one. In the matrix Neo has to believe in himself that he can defeat evil (agents). Also when Neo dies and comes back from life can be seen when god comes back to life. Also when Neo has to take the red pill or blue pill can be compared to how people can choose to have faith in god or not.
